The CEIV Fresh certificate in perishable logistics

Perishable products are a growing market for air cargo, especially in recent months following the COVID-19 crisis. It is becoming increasingly important to ensure that such short-lived products reach their final destination intact.

From IATA (International Air Transport Association) the CEIV Fresh was launched in 2019 to improve the handling and transportation of perishable products. With this certification, carriers are assured that companies are operating with the highest quality and standards in the transportation of this type of goods.

The CEIV Fresh program meets these demanding requirements, mainly based on the IATA Perishable Cargo Regulations (PCR), which combines professional information from experts with that of the administrations. The CEIV Fresh follows the CEIV Pharma which certifies the transport of medical consignments at controlled temperature, as we explain here. Together with these there is also the CEIV Live Animals for the transport of live animals. These are three certificates that are becoming increasingly important in international transport and that all operators, such as RFL, value in their day-to-day operations.

Excellence and standardization

IATA, which represents some 290 airlines comprising 82% of the world’s air traffic, has been working for years to achieve common approaches that help align the needs and responsibilities of all stakeholders involved in the handling of perishable goods. Its Independent Validator Excellence Programs works to achieve global certification and standardization in the transportation and handling of specialty commodities around the world.
