Approximately <strong>18%<\/strong> of the world&#8217;s trade volume in 2023 crossed this strategic waterway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the <strong>constant attacks<\/strong> in recent months on Suez merchant ships by Houthi rebels have caused the world&#8217;s main <a href=\"https:\/\/rflcargo.com\/en\/international-transport\/\">shipping<\/a> lines to suspend their routes through the Suez Canal. In fact, according to some international consultancy firms, transits fell by up to <strong>64%<\/strong> in the first two weeks of the year. A decision that has significantly affected the dynamics of maritime transport and, consequently, <strong>international trade<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact on the logistics sector<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The shipping routes directly affected are those between Asia, India and Europe, as well as routes between the Middle East and Europe, which are being diverted, especially around the <strong>Cape of Good Hope<\/strong> in South Africa. This new route, with a longer route around the African coast, poses a l<strong>ogistical and strategic challenge<\/strong> for shipping lines for a number of reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Increased tariffs<\/strong> on ocean shipments due to transit time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Delay and detention<\/strong> in the global supply chain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Shortage of sailings<\/strong> due to extended sailing time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Departure cancellations<\/strong> due to route diversions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Air and rail transport on the rise<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In view of this situation, some multinationals warn of <strong>possible distortions<\/strong> in the supply of products, especially those sensitive to delays and variations in transport routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rflcargo.com\/en\/\">RFL Cargo<\/a>, as an international logistics operator, explores viable <strong>alternatives<\/strong>, considering in some cases replacing sea freight with <a href=\"https:\/\/rflcargo.com\/en\/air-cargo\/\">air freight<\/a> to avoid delivery delays. This <strong>strategic adaptation<\/strong> seeks to mitigate the negative effects on supply chains and maintain smooth delivery of goods to all customers. <strong>Commitment<\/strong> to all of them is fundamental to the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, many <strong>European countries<\/strong> have increased their demand for <strong>goods train services<\/strong> and have started to look for a logistical solution to replace sea transport with land transport. The most important advantage is <strong>stability<\/strong>.
